April O'Peel - Comedy and Burlesque: Finding Your Funny Boner
Friday at 10am (1 hr) Campus Towers Garneau Room.

Burlesque’s literal definition is to make fun of! Learn to find or hone your funny boner as as we break down the how to of creating a funny burletta and finding your comedic style. This classexamines why we laugh in order to discover our own comedic style. Using principles from sketch comedy as well as others relative to Burlettas, we learn to say yes to being silly in order to explore a different kind of power onstage.

Land Acknowledgements Panel

What is a land acknowledgement and why are they relevant to Burlesque? A territorial or land acknowledgement involves making a statement recognizing the traditional territory of the Indigenous people(s) who called the land home before the arrival of settlers, and in many cases still do call it home. This session will share the history of land acknowledgments, their significance, and how you can respectively include one in your event.

Bea Lissima - Consent and Power for Bystanders
Friday at 1:15pm (1.5hrs) Campus Towers Garneau Room.

What to know more about consent and power-based violence? Ever wonder how to respond in a situation where this is happening? In this workshop, Bea Lissima from Calgary, Alberta will help others gain knowledge and identify how media and society perpetuate harmful messages about consent, relationships and power-based violence. We will explore and discuss the bystander effect, common things that get in the way of saying something, and explore how to hold our community members more accountable. Bea is a queer femme cis-woman of colour and resides on Treaty 7 land. She is trained in and committed to anti-oppressive and trauma-informed education, and is a relationship and sexual health educator as well as a performer, producer, and instructor on burlesque.

Jessebelle Thunder - Musicality Lecture and Movement

Learn how to add some “x-factor” to your act by dancing within the music. This class is part lecture and part movement. You’ll learn some key points to gaining and/or strengthening your musicality without having to be a trained dancer. All levels welcome! Bring gloves!

Raven Virginia - Next Level Emcee: Embracing the Emcee Within

Raven Virginia has been hosting drag, cabaret, burlesque, and awards shows for 7 years. A professional actor and improviser, Raven will share her skill set with participants and get their hosting to the next level. Whether you're venturing into hosting for the first time, or you're a seasoned pro, this hosting/emcee workshop will help participants evolve and elevate their skills.
Workshop will include: *Tips and tricks to create and amplify the onstage persona *Develop improv skills *Learn how to weave stand up comedy into segue (ie. how to tell a personal story onstage and make it funny) *How to make a dull bio sound incredible *Embrace uncertainty and take risks *Audience interaction *How to satisfy producer requests

Kage Wolfe - Groove and Sweat

A dance workshop for all. Encouraging dance through, technique, functionality, and groove. No formal training needed, just an eagerness to learn and a willingness to do your best. Floorwork, funk, and street dance fundamentals will be learned in this class of drills and choreography. Oh and sweat, lots and lots of sweat along with a ton of fun.
