The First Annual Edmonton Burlesque Festival is four days of fabulous from 17-20 October. Over 40 performers from all over Canada and the USA are coming to storm the River City’s stages and show us their delightful… talents.
Thursday Teaser: Doors 8pm
A casual mixer at the Yellowhead Brewery, this is the best chance to meet all the feature performers and artists from abroad, while enjoying a handful of performances from local talent, and live music from Whisky Wagon and The Frolics.
Freaky Friday: Doors 7.30pm, show starts 8.30pm
The avante garde of burlesque, this first showcase event celebrates the witty, wacky and wonderful side of burlesque. Hosted by Canada’s own Burlesque Hall of Fame legend Judith Stein, with feature performances from local darling Madelina Horn (Edmonton), Mistress of Kitty Night’s Burgundy Brixx (Vancouver) and the first King of Boylesque Tigger! (New York). Artists from the local, national and international burlesque community also take to the stage in a jam-packed show. Live music from Noisy Colours and Give Em Hell Boys, with after party at the venue until last call!
Saturday Showcase and Curtain Call After Party: Doors 5pm, show starts 6.00pm sharp
The Saturday Showcase is the sexy, sultry and seductive side of burlesque at its best. Hosted by the Kitty Nights’s Purrrfessor (Vancouver) and with a feature performance from Burgundy Brixx. Another selection of amazing talent from the local, national and international community are set to dazzle in this all-star event, with “Curtain Call” after party at Filthy McNasty’s.
Local designers will be selling a selection of unique clothing and accessories on Thursday and Friday nights.
Miss Burlesque Bunny Competition and The Sunday Shimmy: from 1pm, competition starts 1.30pm sharp
Six of Alberta’s best upcoming burlesque performers battle it out for the crown and title of Miss Burlesque / Mr Boylesque Bunny 2013. Each competitor performs a classic and modern burlesque show, and will be judged by the festival’s feature artists Madeline Horn, Judith Stein, Tigger! and local burlesque legend Suzette Monique.
Sunday Shimmy: from 3pm
A wrap-up party for all performers, VIP’s and volunteers to reminisce, gossip and otherwise unwind after the hectic and hedonistic weekend. Live music from Los Cavaleras.
Advanced sales through YEGLive.ca. Ticket price includes free membership to the Burlesque Association of Edmonton. Tickets will be more on the door, with memberships available for the special price of $5 (usually $10) throughout the festival weekend.

Ever want to produce events for yourself and your peers to perform in, but have no idea where to start? Learn all the basics for successfully producing your own burlesque show. We get into the true reality of the world of producing including the differences in dealing with theatres, bars/nightclubs and private events. Other topics include contracts, and the burlesque producer’s obligations to venue, performer and community. Handouts will be given. Please bring along something to take notes with as well.

Tigger! is a recognized pioneer of the current burlesque scene but has been an actor all his life, “acting like a stripper” for 21 years. Using his degree in theatre, his experience teaching college acting, and over 30 years on the stage (both Shakespeare & Shimmy), he employs his theatrical training & perspective to break down what makes a burlesque performer stand out from the herd.
